Fritz Bentler will be a familiar name to residents in the state of Iowa this upcoming fall. The Davenport Assumption defensive end is the younger brother of current Iowa Hawkeye defensive tackle Ted Bentler.
Thus far, Bentler has received interest from the likes of Boston College, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Stanford along with interest from both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones.
Bentler made mention that he will play where the opportunity presents itself, but for now, gave his comments on the two programs he knows the best in Iowa and Iowa State.
Iowa: "It is a real good program, and it is close to home. Of course, my brother plays there, and has good things to tell me about the program and Iowa City. They've just told me that I have to attend their camp to earn a scholarship."
Iowa State: "I really enjoy the coaches there, and obviously they play in the Big 12 Conference. They have great academics, especially in engineering which I'm considering as my major."
Bentler, who also could project along the offensive line if his body can hold the weight, tallied 72 tackles, five sacks, and one fumble recovery as a junior this past fall.
He holds a 3.5 GPA and scored a 26 on the ACT in his first attempt.
