The following information was revealed during our interview with Jeremy Maclin:
What are your strengths at wide receiver? "I can catch the ball really good. I have quick feet, play smart, and I run good routes."
What are you working on for the next level? "My strength, big time, and endurance."
What were your stats as a junior at Kirkwood (6A)? "I had 55 catches for 1,200 yards and 21 TD's. I rushed the ball 22 times for 210 yards and 8 TD's. I also had 56 tackles and 4 int's at free safety."
Any awards? "I was named 1st Team All-State (overall) at WR, 1st Team All-Metro at WR and All-Conference at WR and FS."
Which colleges are the most interested in you? "I have five offers right now. Missouri, Illinois, Ole Miss offered me last week, Michigan State, and Iowa was one of the first schools to offer me. I am getting recruited hard by a bunch of others like Texas Tech, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Indiana, and N' Western is also close to offering me."
Which schools have caught your eye? "You know, Texas Tech, although they have not offered me, they are one of my top schools. I like their style of offense. As far as the schools who have offered me, I guess you could say that I am leaning toward Michigan State and Iowa, but I am still very interested in Illinois, Ole Miss, and Missouri. I will probably go down to Mississippi and up to Illinois to check those two schools out. I want to visit their campus'. I have been to Missouri, and I already have plans to visit Iowa and Michigan State."
What all do you like about Michigan State? "I know they have a really good head coach. They are on the rise, and they always have a good program. I think it would be a really fun place to play."
What are Iowa's positives? "They had a pretty good year last season. They have finished in the Top 10 for three straight years. They are the preseason #2 team in the country, and I feel like they are going to win it while I am in college. They have some pretty good facilities, as far as I know. I would love to play for their head coach."
What about Missouri? "One of the biggest reasons why I am still considering them is that I know I could make an impact for their team as a freshman. I do not have to be a major impact in my first year, as I would redshirt if anyone needed me to, but at Mizzou, I know I would fit in their scheme. I think I would fit in real good with their new offense."
Illinois? "Coach Zook, he is a real good recruiter, so you know he is going to bring in a great class this year. By the time we were Jr's and Sr's, we would be competing for the championship. He is going to bring in good players."
Ole Miss? "They have an entire new staff. I think they only brought back like one coach from their last staff. I know they did not have a good season last year, but they have been so solid since I have basically been watching football. They will have a good supporting cast while I am there. Coach Orgeron is going to spread the ball around in his offense. They are going to throw the ball. Yea, I would like to play for an offense like Ole Miss'."
Do you prefer an intense or laid back staff? "Intense, just like me."
What will be the factors in your decision? "How good the team and staff are. Campus life, I want to go to a campus with some life to it. The academics will be the most important thing for me because I can only play ball for so long. Location, I want to either be real close to home, or go way off, like the West or East Coast. And although the weather will not be the big thing for me, it could be something that gets one school over the hump. I prefer to play in warm weather. I am not saying I will not play in the cold, I will, but if I had my choice, I want to play in the warm weather."
4/11 UPDATE: Josh Clark spoke with Maclin and there was some clarification on offers:
""I have actually only received three written offers from Missouri, Michigan State, and Ole' Miss," said Maclin. "Iowa and Illinois have verbally offered me scholarships, and I'm not totally sure about Iowa as they spoke to our athletic director and my former coach, Mike Wade."
