Junior OL John Tjaden Visiting Hawks This Weekend

One of the top offensive line prospects from in-state happens to be once again from Mason City, Iowa. This time around it is 6'6 270 Junior John Tjaden. John made a Junior Day visit to Iowa State last weekend and will be following up to Iowa City this weekend. Get the early scoop on the recruitment of OL John Tjaden.

Last year, Hawk fans did not have much reason to pay attention to Mason City with Scott Raridon's early verbal to Notre Dame. However, that most likely will not be the case this time around with John Tjaden.

"I never grew up a big Irish fan," John said. "Right now, I have one offer from Iowa State and I'm receiving mail from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Stanford."

This past weekend, John made his first Junior Day visit to Ames, IA to check out the Iowa State vs Nebraska ball game. He was accompanied by other outstanding juniors such as WR/DB Todd Blythe, OL Aaron Brant, RB/DB Taylor Scharage, and others.

"It was an interesting visit. I had seen everything there before, but I did get a chance to view the models for the new practice facility they are building there."

"Coach McCarney is great and the whole staff is real friendly. I even got to meet the new OL coach in Marty Fine. My conversation went very well with him as we just sat down and talked for a while."

This weekend, John will be one of many juniors in attendance for Iowa's home basketball game against Michigan.

"I have also been to Iowa City a few times already. I went to the Penn State football game and I also visited for the Indiana basketball game. Iowa has really nice facilities. There weight room is bigger than any that I have seen."

Obviously, it is very early for John in his recruitment. With the increased pressure put on prospects and their recruitment, the percentage of early verbals is steadily increasing. However, John is not so sure he will fit under that same bill.

"I'm not nearly sure yet on when I want to decide. This is a real big decision that I will have to make. I just want to make sure I'm comfortable with my decision. I really will be looking for a place that stresses academics and presents a very friendly atmosphere."

John will not only be adding a very solid football player to any team, but also an extremely solid student as he currently carries a 3.98 GPA. Now while Hawk fans will hope for a possible Hawk commit from John in the future, the first hope will be that he views a winning basketball effort against Michigan on Saturday evening.
