Defensive back Phillip Strozier (6-0, 190, 4.5) from Kansas City Rockhurst (Mo.) finished his junior season with 55 tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. He benches 275 pounds, squats 355 and has a vertical jump of 34-inches.
"I have good technique and am really aggressive. I have a good blend of power and speed. I'm smart and have good footwork too. I'm just technically sound," said Strozier. "I want to work on my speed and consistency. I just need to move better and improve my feet."
Strozier has scholarship offers from Kansas and Missouri, but favors Notre Dame slightly over Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Boston College. "My parents like Notre Dame too," said Strozier. "They like the academics and prestige of Notre Dame. It's a great school and they always have a pretty consistent team. They get good players and the new coaches are looking to turn it around. They usually aren't down for too long.
"I like Iowa because they have a really good grad rate and you can always count on them to do well. They had one of the best recruiting classes this year so they should be getting even better," said Strozier.
His first scholarship offer was from Kansas and he has already attended the Jayhawks Junior Day. "The program is on the rise and I like the town a lot. It's very sports oriented and laid back. I felt comfortable there.
"Missouri has offered me, but they aren't in my top five. They are in my top 10 because I just haven't been that impressed with them yet. They aren't out of it though, anything can change. I'd rather get my commitment out of the way during the season. I don't want to drag it out too long."
Reports a 3.1 GPA and is waiting on his ACT results.
