Ames Star Hopes to Commit By End of August

Ames (Iowa) quarterback Austen Arnaud (6-3, 205, 4.8) still says Iowa State (first to offer) and Iowa lead slightly over Nebraska, Louisville, Virginia and Michigan. The Cyclones and Hawkeyes are still his only offers. More from Arnaud in this update, as well as a time frame for his decision...

"I still like them both just a bit over the other schools in my top five," said Arnaud. "I really just like how Iowa State is close to home and I've known coach (Dan) McCarney since I was in the eighth grade. I definitely like it over there.

"I never got to make it to Iowa's spring practice, so I figure that I'll get out there a couple of times this summer. I really like coaches (Ken) O'Keefe (quarterbacks) and (Reese) Morgan (offensive line) a lot. Plus, the strength and conditioning program they've got there is just next to none. Coach (Chris) Doyle (strength and conditioning) really does great things with the players.

"I went to Nebraska this past weekend (4/16) for their spring game. It was a really cool experience. There were about 23 NFL players there who used to play for Nebraska. I really got to appreciate the fans there…I really love the support they give to the team.

"I've spoken with the quarterback coaches at Louisville, Virginia and Michigan, and we're in pretty good contact with each other. I think they're interested in me, but there hasn't been any mention of an offer yet.

"I know that one of the coaches from Michigan plans on coming out to my high school for a visit in May. I'm still really considering them.

"I'm not that interested in Notre Dame anymore because they recently got a commitment from Zach Frazer (quarterback). He seems to be there #1 guy at the position right now, so I might as well go and look at some other programs.

"I was going to try and get out there for their spring game this weekend (4/23), but I run track to keep in shape and we've got a meet this weekend so I won't have time to go there.

This summer Arnaud plans to unofficially visit Iowa, Michigan, Virginia and Louisville. He is undecided if he'll still trip to Notre Dame, but he knows for sure he'll camp at both Iowa and Iowa State.

"I'm still looking to commit to a school before the start of the season. At the latest, by the end of August."
