"I'm still thinking over the schools that will complete my top five list with my parents. I should have one in the next couple of weeks, or at the latest by the end of the month," said Carufel, from Cretin-Derham Hall High School.
"I know that I'm definitely interested in three programs: Notre Dame, Iowa and Minnesota. I think these programs will be in my top five.
"I like how the coaches at Notre Dame have expressed a lot of interest in me. Some of them have come by and seen me at my track meets, and I also got to see coach (Charlie) Weis at my school. It seems like a great place to be and it would be hard to find anything better than what they've got going over there. They've got some great academics and coach Weis is going to turn that program around. They play one of the best, if not the best, schedules in the country as well," he said.
"My friend, Raphael Eubanks ('05 Iowa signee), is going to Iowa. They just seem like one of the best-coached teams out there. I really like coaches (Reese) Morgan (offensive line) and (Chris) Doyle (strength and conditioning) from there. They've also got a great game day atmosphere. I mean, it's really amazing to see the fans there. I've been to a couple of their games last season. They're close to home and Iowa City is also very similar to where I live in Forest Lake, Minnesota.
"Minnesota is also a very well coached program and they do a good job with their O-lineman there. They've also got some good running backs that go there, and it would be a great situation for me with them being so close to home. I mean what can you say--they're Minnesota," he said.
"I don't have any plans for unofficial visits or camps this summer. I still want to make my decision on committing to a program probably by the end of the season."
