Missouri defensive end/linebacker Adrian Clayborn (6-2, 245, 4.8) now claims he does not have a leader.
"Right now I like Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Texas Tech and Iowa (no offer)," said Clayborn, from Webster Groves High School. "All of these teams are even for me right now." In early June, Clayborn gave the slight edge to Illinois and Nebraska.
"I was at Missouri for a team camp on June 12. Everybody on my team did well there and so did I. I really like being around the coaching staff there, especially being around coaches (Gary) Pinkel and (Cornell) Ford (cornerbacks). They're all easy to talk to and stuff.
"Everything that the coaches at Illinois tell me sounds good. I don't feel nervous or anything around those coaches. Hopefully I'll have more to say about them later.
"I actually just got off the phone with coach (Kevin) Cosgrove (linebackers) from Nebraska. He's great to talk to and he gave me coach (Bill) Callahan's number. I've got to call him soon, but other than that, everything with them has been going good too," he said.
"Coach (Seth) Littrell (running backs) from Texas Tech is great too…I've spoken with him a couple of times and I really like what he's had to say. He's told me that I've got a good chance of going in there and contributing early as a freshman.
"Iowa wants to get me there for a one-day camp before they offer me. I'd like to try to get out there this summer if I can.
Clayborn said that he has plans to unofficially visit both Illinois and Nebraska in July.
"Nebraska and Missouri want me as a middle linebacker, and the rest of those schools in my top five want me as a defensive end. It doesn't matter to me what position I play in college, just as long as I'm on the field," he said.
"I still want to commit to a program after the season."
