Carufel Still Content with Top Three

St. Paul (Minn.) offensive lineman Matt Carufel (6-5, 288, 5.3) says he's put recruiting on hold lately and has not really focused on filling in the remainder of his top five list. That's very good news for his big three: Notre Dame, Iowa and Minnesota.

"I haven't really been thinking about recruiting lately. I've just been busy spending time with my family and doing some other stuff," said Carufel, from Cretin-Derham Hall High School.

"I know that I still really like Notre Dame, Iowa and Minnesota, and I want those three schools to be part of my top five. I should have the other schools in that list of five by the end of August," he said.

"I know that I want to get out to all three of these programs for official visits this season. I want to go out to Notre Dame in their game against USC. It's just a great school and it's a school that I'd want to go to even if football wasn't a factor. It's just a great place and you're set for life with a degree from there. That's a big deal to me when choosing a school.

"I also want to get out to Iowa in their game against Minnesota. It's a great school for linemen and they've put some big names in the pros from those positions. They've got some real genuine players' coaches there and a good family feel to them. That's real important to me, especially with my high school background and the family atmosphere I've got here. They've also got a great game day atmosphere and it would be a nice place to be," he said.

"I don't know what game I'll get out for at Minnesota. They were one of the first schools to show a lot of interest in me and they're also only about 20 minutes away from where I live. The possibility of staying close to home around my family and friends is very appealing to me. And they've been doing pretty well as of late, and they're on their way up. They've got a good program there," he said.

"I'm still not going anywhere for camps or unofficial visits this summer."
