Hinkel: A History of Winning

Read what Iowa's senior receiver had to say following Tuesday's press conference in this premium update.

Q: What do you guys take out of the film from Saturday? Did you see the progress you were hoping to see?

Ed Hinkel: I think it just shows that when we execute, we can be a pretty good football team. That's the thing that we have to look at. There's still a lot of mistakes we're making, things like that. It just shows that when we get all 11 guys on the same page doing the same thing on every play, we'll be pretty good.

Q: What do you think was the issue coming up to the game where things weren't clicking. You guys had a lot of guys back on offense.

Hinkel: I don't know. We couldn't really put a finger on it before. We just needed to keep working, that's what we did. We've just got to keep doing it.

Q: What are your impressions of Purdue and their defense?

Hinkel: They're good. They're a veteran team on defense, I think they've got everybody back. They're pretty good, they're going to bring a lot of guys, they're physical, they're fast.

Q: People are talking about their defense taking a step back, almost, this year. Have you seen much tape on that, have you see many differences in what they do/

Hinkel: I think they're definitely a better team defensively than what they showed against Notre Dame. I think that's obvious, they're a much better defensive team than what they played the other night.

Q: Coach says some things in there about you as a guy who does all the dirty work and just plain wins, period. What approach do you take to things, kind of a broad question.

Hinkel: I just go out and do everything I can to help us win. That's the approach I've always taken, whether it's going in and blocking somebody or catching a ball, returning punts, kicks. Doing whatever, I'm going to do whatever I've got to do to help this team.

Q: He said you have a pretty good record as a football player since like 7th grade. Do you know what that is?

Hinkel: Since 5th grade, I think it's maybe 13 losses.

Q: Do you know how many wins?

Hinkel: I don't even know, probably 12 or 13 games a year, so I don't know, you can do the math.

Q: Does Purdue's defense get enough credit?

Hinkel: I think they're definitely a better team than what they showed the other day. They're very experienced on defense, they've got some guys that are pretty good, their defensive line is good, their linebackers are all experienced. They're a little better than what they showed the other night.
