News of Bryon Gattas' commitment circulated on the HN Clubhouse this morning after I learned of the commitment through people I have come to know outside of the state of Iowa on the recruiting trails.
Contrary to reports elsewhere, Gattas completely understood how news of his commitment spread like wildfire.
"Some of my quotes elsewhere today were a bit misconstrued," Gattas said. "In your case, you told me your source of the information and that is your job to report news. I was disappointed not to be able to tell the opposing coaches of my commitment so they could hear it from me first, but I know that is the nature of this business. There are no sour feelings at all."
Moving on to more important items, Gattas explained why he knew he couldn't leave Iowa City not being a Hawkeye.
"I could not find one negative about Iowa City."
Continuing further as to why he is now a Hawkeye, he feels he has a great chance to make an impact right away.
"I feel I have a excellent opportunity to play right away. There is a lot of opportunity at Iowa as they have a lot of young linebackers and shallow depth. I love the strength coach they have there at Iowa in Chris Doyle. They have the best coaching staff and strength program in the country" said Gattas.
Gattas is the 13th known verbal commitment in the Hawkeyes' Class of 2006.
