Florida Linebacker Talks About His Iowa Visit

After winning the Florida Class 5A State Title & the mythical National Championship last weekend with his teammates at Lakeland Senior High, linebacker Troy Johnson ventured north this weekend to take an official visit to Iowa City. Josh Clark has the latest for all users.

"It was a pretty good visit," said Troy Johnson, whose only offer is from Iowa. "Pat Angerer was my host, and told me about all the great people they have at Iowa, which I was able to see. They have real good coaches, and it's a nice place there."

Johnson heard a lot about academics on his visit, which impressed him.

"We met with academic advisers on Saturday, and I even got a chance to talk an adviser from the business program, which is what I want to major in. They really stress academics at Iowa," Johnson stated.

"I was also greatly impressed with their strength and conditioning program. People were saying it is the best in the country. I talked to Coach (Chris) Doyle a lot about nutrition and working out. I like the fact that the freshman come in to work out at 6 a.m. two or three times a week. It really shows dedication in the program."

As far as a decision goes, Johnson says it could come anytime now.

"Iowa didn't pressure me at all into a decision, and I really liked that. Coach (Kirk) Ferentz just said they'd be in touch in a couple of days, and my father and I wanted to go to home to talk my decision over with my mother," Johnson concluded.
