"I have scholarship offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Iowa, Illinois, Florida State and Purdue." Dionte Allen said.
"My favorites are Michigan, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame and Ohio State."
Allen, a 6-foot, 170-pounder, from St. Mary's High in Orchard Lake will be a four-year varsity starter. We asked St. Mary's coach, George Porritt, what Dionte Allen brings to the table as a football player.
"Dionte has been on the varsity for four years," Coach Porritt said. "He has great quickness, fluid hips and he's a great leader. Notre Dame, Michigan and most of the Big Ten schools have offered a scholarship."
According to the coaching staff at rival Brother Rice High School, Dionte Allen is a phenom and several other coaches in the Detroit area have said nothing but great things about Allen in the past month.
Allen, a wide receiver on offense and a cornerback on defense for St. Mary's, says he'll play defense in college.
"I'm being recruited as a cornerback." Dionte Allen said. "I feel that I'm good in bump and run coverage. I love to go against the top receivers and I feel that I have what it takes to play cornerback at the next level.
"I also feel that I'm good at playing the run. I'm aggressive and I make things happen on the field."
Did Allen have a childhood favorite?
"Oh yea, I grew up liking Florida State," Allen explained. "I liked to watch Peter Warrick and Deion Sanders but I also liked to watch Charles Woodson at Michigan."
Allen also talked about junior days, summer camps and when he plans on making a commitment.
"I've been to Michigan and Notre Dame for their junior days," Allen said. "I'm going to Michigan State on February 18th. I also plan on going down to Florida State for a junior day. I'm not sure about camps yet.
"As far as making a decision is concerned, I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm still taking everything in. I want to make the right decision so I don't want to get too much in a hurry to get things over with."
Allen had 56 tackles and five interceptions as a junior. He earned all-state honors.
