(Fans cheer "Bruuuuuuu")
Are you guys booing me?
I guess it's always been my dream to come here and play. I was born and raised a Hawkeye. I couldn't imagine anything else. The weird thing was, when I committed to Iowa, I was a junior nobody really knew about. A lot of people questioned Coach Alford for giving me a scholarship. Well, keep on questioning.
I have a lot of people to thank, so bear with me. First off, all the yellow coats in the back and on top, we couldn't do it without you guys. The security, the crew that puts the court up and down. I know I'm always pestering you guys to keep it up, always on it when I can, but I know it's your job. The rest of the guys and girls in the equipment room, you make my uniform smell really nice, which is hard. Mike Henderson's is really hard to keep smelling nice.
Coach Maxwell, our strength coach, for putting up with me every day, asking a lot of questions. I don't do the stretches right ever. The academic staff, I appreciate everything they've done. We've got two academic All-Americans on this team, and a bunch of Academic All Big Ten.
Coach Streif, Floyd, everyone else in the training room, you guys have done wonders, as you can see.
The coaches and the managers of course. I'm going to go through each of the coaches to tell them how much I love them and appreciate them.
Coach Alford, wow. I'm not going to cry. These past four years you've been like a father to me, [unintelligible] I know you're hard on me because you know how good I can be, and I couldn't ask for anything else.
Coach Neal, you're definitely the voice of the group. Coach Neal's that guy I can always hear. Before the game he says "C'mon Bru, get it going" I heard him, but I'm used to hear other words and everything else coming out of his mouth too. It was hard to recognize if it was him or not. I want him to know he's been the greatest addition in the world these past two years.
Coach Lansing, like I said, you rub the top of my head before every game.
You know what the weird thing about these coaches is? I'll tell you a little story.
It was Coach Neal's birthday a few weeks ago, and Coach Alford asked Coach Neal how old he was. They got into this argument about who looks older, cause they're both pretty boys and everything. (Laughs) They asked me who looked older, I looked up and said, "Me."
Is it bad to look older than all your coaches? Coach Walker is really my only guy.
BJ. Coach Walker and BJ, they're the guys that when I'm having a bad day, when I'm struggling, they can make you laugh, give you that energy you need. I love you guys to death, it's been the greatest four years of my life, you could never imagine. The managers, the last four years, you've been along for the ride. All the other guys back there, I'm out of here soon, so you guys can take over. Each one of these guys on this team is a phenomenal person, I love you guys all to death, I'm handing this torch off to you guys and it's your job to run with it.
Each one of these seniors, I've established an amazing relationship with them. I'm not downing all you guys, cause I love all you guys, but Jeff, we've been a pair since basically freshman year. It's going to be weird not having you around, but I've got a couple games with you.
(Someone in the crowd yells out "A couple?!")
A lot more games with you.
My girlfriend's family, Barb and Chuck, you guys have been amazing to me. [unintelligible] And my girlfriend. Girlfriends have it the worst, especially dating a college basketball player. They get you when you're not having a good day, when you're frustrated, when you're mad. You go home and they're always there smiling, what more could I ask, so I love you.
The Walters, I think you're here. You guys have been like a second family for me growing up. And of course the [unintelligible]. I promised I'd say their names. Jon, Kim, Jared, Jason, Michelle, Jordan, Justin, did I forget anybody? Allison.
And my family, of course. My little sister, I love you to death, you've been to all my games and I appreciate it. My brother, who just got back from Kuwait (Loud applause) and my Mom and my Dad. These have been the greatest four years of my life, and you guys have been the best part of it. I've never met someone who is so proud of me, for everything I've done. You've been to every single game, cheering me on, telling me not only what I did well but what I did wrong too. Sometimes I don't want to hear it, but I appreciate it. I just... that's all I can really say. I love you.
And finally, the fans.
This has been the best year of my life. The past three years have been a struggle, but look at the Hawk's Nest, all the way up. Thank you everybody.
