Dave currently is attending a camp at the University of Virginia, one of the many stops he has made so far this summer.
"We took Dave out to Michigan, first, for their camp," Dave Shinskie, Sr. stated to HTO.com very graciously as he was willing to give the latest on his son's situation. "We then traveled to South Bend to attend Notre Dame's camp for one day. It was then a ten hour drive home late last week. It did not stop there, though, as Dave went to Penn State's camp this past Monday and Tuesday, and is now currently at Virginia's."
The amount of miles traveled right there might be more than what some prospects have traveled in their lifetime. The bus does not stop there, however, as several more trips are planned from their Pennsylvania home.
"Next month, we are planning on flying into Bloomington, IN to visit Indiana. They were his second offer this summer after Iowa. Then, we will make the trip over to Iowa City to spend a night there and check everything out."
With the amount of camps Dave has attended this summer, some would believe that it could be Dave is not satisified with his offers. That is not the case in most aspects for Dave, though.
"There are fifteen to twenty schools showing interest in Dave right now, and before he cuts his list down he wanted to see how many more schools planned on offering. Dave performed pretty well at all the camps so we are hoping to hear from those four before too long. Boston College, UCONN, Villanova, and Vanderbilt are some other schools showing very strong interest."
So what is Dave's current mindset in regards to Iowa?
"We have heard very good things from several people about Iowa. We definitely want to take two visits there, one being unofficial and there being an official. Other schools have stated that Dave is one of their top QB's, but they want to see what their position is with other top priorities. Iowa was a school that viewed the tape and decided that Dave was certainly a guy they would take early as a QB."
"Iowa sends a lot of postcards, letters, and brochures. They are all very personal and handwritten. They do the best job with their letters with how informative and personal they are. They also have been good at sending letters to us, too, and not just Dave. They have told us about a lot of things, including beind ranked second in Forbes Magazine for best location to live."
It is not hard from reading those comments to see how serious of a player Iowa is in the sweepstakes for Dave Shinskie. It also was not hard for Dave Sr. to tell me that Iowa is the current leader.
"Dave has options right now and has many schools recruiting him. We are pretty hopeful that more offers will be coming in, but Iowa is the current leader at this time. Their coaching staff has great communication and we definitely plan on taking a few visits."
So if Dave does indeed end up becoming the QB for the Hawks in this class, according to Dave Sr. what type of QB would we be landing?
"I've asked every coach recruiting Dave what they like about him. Many coaches have said that he is a very strong armed QB with accuracy. Also, they love his down the field vision and believe he has great poise. He is not slow, either, but he will not burn anyone on the field."
Dave plans to major in elementary education and currently carries a 3.4 GPA.
The Hawks have not offered a lot of QB's in this year's class, but Dave Shinskie was one of the first and could end up being the one they take in this class. Dave has that tough minded style to go along with his skill that will fit in perfectly with the type of character that associates with Coach Ferentz. Could the Hawkeyes be getting good news this fall from Pennsylvania?
Also, HTO.com will have some quotes from Dave Jr. when he returns from Virginia camp. Those will be posted on the HIE Premium Board.
