QB Lance Parker Looking for Best Opportunity

The Iowa Hawkeyes started a new era of Hawkeye football when they went into SEC country and landed Arkansas QB Cy Phillips. This year, a 6'2 175 QB from Arkansas, Lance Parker, attended the Hawkeye Football Camp. Could the Hawks be on the verge of trying to lock up another Arkansas QB?

Iowa surprised many when they signed small town Arkansas QB Cy Phillips last Feburary over offers from Arkansas and Ole' Miss. This year, Iowa has stepped it up a bit in terms of the town's population in recruiting Bryant, AR QB Lance Parker. This 6'2 175 strong armed QB was also in attendance for Hawkeye Football Camp this summer.

"I attended camps at Iowa, Arkansas, and Ole' Miss," Lance said. "Iowa was a little different than the other two camps. I did not seem to be as drilled and I felt more relaxed."

Lance currently only has offers from Tulsa, Arkansas State, and Northwestern State. With a strong summer and potential fall performance, Lance should be expecting more offers. What will be the criteria he uses in making his decision?

"I just want to choose the best program where I can actually play and compete. I don't want just a free education to get blitzed in practice. Sitting on the bench is not my ideal situation, and I want a place where I know I can play."

Lance seems to have a level head with his thoughts of the recruiting process. Certainly, the camps had to help him become more aware of where he stood against other talent. Iowa's camp gave Lance the chance to view himself against some midwestern quarterbacks.

"My roommate was a 6'6 QB from Minnesota. I know his first name was John. I also met Andre Brown and Tommy Zbikowski from Illinois. They were all good quarterbacks, but I felt comfortable in my ability that no one stood out in front of me."

What was Lance's first impression like during his short visit to Iowa City?

"The facilites were great. I would have to say they were the best that I have seen. I thought the coaches were very nice and sincere. They did not act like they were too busy or did not have time for me. They told me they were interested, but that it was early and they wanted to evaluate some more. I think they are interested, though, as I'm still receiving hand-written letters daily."

Lance also had to experience his first drive to Iowa. How well did that fare?

"It was a long drive, definitely. However, college is college. I just want to play at the highest level I can achieve."

Lance has already qualified with a 3.0 GPA and 23 on ACT.

It was late last year when the Hawkeyes learned about QB Cy Phillips. Cy has good ability and holds a lot of promise to get better under the excellent coaching of the Iowa staff. Will the Hawks end up offering Lance to attempt to go two for two in two years of recruiting Arkansas quarterbacks?
