Iowa Coming On Strong for Rouse

Linebacker Kevin Rouse (6-1, 220, 4.6) from Joliet Catholic Academy (Ill.) said that he favored Northwestern on May 30, but now denies a leader. spoke with Rouse today and he gives an insight into his recruitment, which also includes his new friendship with Iowa commit Bryan Bulaga. Rouse lets you in on how the Iowa staff has been coming on strong in this report...

"The three schools I know most about are Northwestern, Iowa and Wisconsin," Kevin Rouse said. "Now I'm just trying to visit other schools that have offered me so that I know my options. I want a school I can feel comfortable at for four or five years and I won't know if I feel good about it 'til I visit.

"Pittsburgh offered me a while back. Three of their linebackers are graduating so they will be in need. I've seen pictures of the campus and it's in the middle of the city--I'd like living in the city. I plan to visit Pittsburgh with my dad on July 27 or 28," Rouse said.

"When I visited Iowa on Spring Break, they didn't show me much attention. Then I went to the All-American Combine (in April) and ran a real good forty time of 4.58. The coaches from Iowa saw me there and said they liked my performance on drills and stuff," he said.

"A couple weeks later (in early May), Iowa coaches visited me at school and offered me. Ever since then they've been coming on real hard recruiting me. I guess they were pretty impressed from the combine. I plan to visit their campus again. Also, my friend, Brian Bulaga (offensive tackle from Marian Central Catholic), committed to Iowa. He's a newer friend, but a very nice guy.

"I like Wisconsin a lot. I like their program because they have great linebackers with a lot of speed. I also like how Wisconsin uses them in defense--it seems like the linebackers make all the plays," Rouse said.

"Minnesota is recruiting me the hardest. When schools recruit me that hard, I will pay attention back to them, so I plan to visit Minnesota this summer, too.

"I grew up watching Notre Dame. They haven't offered me, but they have seen me play. If they were to offer me, I would definitely consider them. No matter how far I go from home, I can always jump on a plane to see my family within a couple of hours," Rouse said.

"I'm also trying to visit North Carolina State, Boston College and Iowa State this summer," he said. "And I'm still planning to commit before the season starts."

Rouse reports a 3.5 GPA and a 26 ACT score.
