One of the top athletes from the state of Illinois is Tommy Zbikowski from Arlington Heights (Ill.) Buffalo Grove High School. Zbikowski, 6-0 and 190 pounds, is an athletic quarterback that could play in the secondary as well.
"I have good speed and mental toughness," said Zbikowski. "I box and that has really helped me become a mentally tough player. Offensively, a lot of people have compared my game to Eric Crouch. Defensively, I could play corner or safety. Most colleges like me as a free safety, while five to six schools (Nebraska, NW, MAC schools) like as a quarterback. I just sit back there and read the quarterback. I know how offenses work and that helps."
According to Zbikowski, he has scholarship offers from about 30 schools, including offers from Nebraska, Notre Dame, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Illinois, Arizona State and Boston College.
"I list all my offers right now and I hope to have it cut down to five or six schools in September. I can't handle this much longer. I am looking at coaching stability and I would like to contribute early."
Last season as a junior, Zbikowski rushed for 1,097 yards and 19 touchdowns and threw for 1,200 yards and 14 scores (4 interceptions). He camped this summer at Notre Dame, Iowa, Nebraska, Bowling Green, Northwestern and the Peyton Manning passing camp.
