Shada: "Moving In The Right Direction"

Adam Shada spoke with the media following Iowa's Open Practice on Saturday. Read what he had to say about the development of the corners, an update on his injury, the energy in Kinnick Stadium and more in this premium transcript

Q: What'd you do to the thigh, a charliehorse?

Adam Shada: Just tweaked a hammy a little. It wasn't too serious, I just didn't want to push it and do anything stupid.

Q: How's camp going for you? It's important for you and Charles to get a lot of work in and see where you're at. Where do you think you're at?

Shada: I don't really know, but I think from where we were at before camp started, I think we've taken some positive steps forward mentally and sharpened up some footwork stuff. We've still got a ways to go, but I think we're moving in the right direction. We're both excited to get the season going.

Q: How have you guys been dealing with injuries, you're the spot that's getting hit quite a bit.

Shada: Don't want to get that going yet, but today it looks like we had a couple rough ones, but fortunately none of them were serious and we'll all be fine in a few days. Just looked like that today, but I think we're going to be alright.

Q: How have the young receivers looked?

Shada: I'm really impressed with the young receivers. They've got a confident group of guys, they're all in the Steve Smith mold, small, real quick guys with real good speed. They're tough ones to cover, I think. I think they're doing a great job, I'm not sure what we'll see from them this year, who's doing what, but they've impressed me throughout camp.

Q: Do you prefer the smaller Steve Smith types to Hardy at Indiana? The big guys?

Shada: It depends on how you look at it. I think when you look at those type of players they tend to be lower to the ground, change direction better, that kind of speed. I think they're tough to cover, that mold of receiver is definitely a challenge. I think they're doing well, though.

Q: What are you seeing from the linebackers, trying to replace Abdul and Chad?

Shada: As far as Abdul and Chad go, those two guys are first round picks, second round picks, it's not fair to compare anybody to that. They're doing a great job. Gattas and Klink and Humpal, those guys, not sure who's going to be where, but I'm confident in whoever is in there, because I think they're all doing a great job right now.

Q: Are you getting tired of bumping into each other, you guys excited to get Montana in here and hitting somebody different?

Shada: Absolutely. We've been looking forward to the season for quite a while here. Camp drags out a little bit and it's important that we get our work in. We're definitely ready to get a game going. Not quite ready as a team yet, but we're excited.

Q: Was it refreshing to get a change of venue, get into a real stadium, get the feel of a scrimmage type atmosphere?

Shada: I think it was. It was nice to get that energy, but I think we've still got to step it up as far as energy goes. We weren't as hyped up as we usually get in Kinnick. It was a little flat as far as a scrimmage goes. It was exciting to get them there and get the feet wet a little bit and get excited for the season.
