Montana Week: Marcus Paschal

Marcus Paschal spoke with the media on Tuesday about preparing for Montana, the long off-season, the freshmen receivers, and more. Read what he had to say in this premium transcript.

Q: (A question on the Montana offense)

Marcus Paschal: He's kind of sidearm, they've got a couple big receivers, and a big-sized quarterback. I think they can do a couple things with the ball, so we'll have to get out there and get after it on Saturday.

Q: Considering the situation Ball State was in last year, do you think this has the possibility to be one of the tougher season openers you guys have had over the last few years?

Paschal: They've got talent over there they've got guys coming, good guys, they went to other big programs, so they can get it done. We've got to go out there and be ready on Saturday.

Q: What do you know about the state on Montana?

Paschal: I don't know too much about it. I'd heard of the team that we're going in to play against on Saturday a lot on the AA level, when I came out I was being recruiting by the AA level a lot. Other than that, I don't know too much about the state.

Q: Coach said a couple freshmen receivers, Anthony and Dominique are both going to play, does that surprise you?

Paschal: No, it doesn't. Those two guys have been doing real well. Coming into camp and media day I named a couple of those guys and it doesn't surprise me. They came in, they've been working hard at it, and I'm glad to see they're going to have a chance to get out there and help us this year.

Q: What kind of skills do they have to surpass some of the guys that have been there longer?

Paschal: I don't know. Work. Dominique's got good size with little man speed. Bowman's just a quick guy, get open, not a real big guy, physical guy, but he can get open and catch the ball, which we're going to need this year.

Q: How excited are you to get back out and play a game now?

Paschal: I'm really excited. This off-season I was fortunate to be healthy so I was able to go through all the drills. It's been a long off-season and I'm just ready to get back to where it counts.

Q: What have you guys seen in Montana so far?

Paschal: It's the first game of the season. We can watch film and everything, but until you get in the middle of the season, you really don't know what to expect. They've got a couple transfers in, a new offensive coordinator, so we've just got to go in. We can try, we can think we know, but we have no idea until we get out there on Saturday and see what they come out with.

Q: They're really young at the TE, their depth chart full of freshmen, is that an area you guys think you can exploit on the blitzes?

Paschal: Right now it's the beginning of the week, we haven't gone into the gameplan and things like that, but they're a real good football club, they've got a couple guys coming in, a quarterback, receivers, a runningback, they've got some weapons on offense. We're going to have come out and be ready to play Iowa, tough football
