Ohio TE/DE Has Iowa in Top Five

It has not been common for the Hawks to be a big player when it comes to recruiting the state of Ohio. Last recruiting season, the Hawks started to turn the wheels with the signing of WR David Vickers. Now that momentum may take a charge for the better this recruiting season with the Hawks showing strong interest in several Ohio prospects, including DB Mike Phillips, RB Harvey McDougle, and OL Matt Maizel. Now, one of the finest in Ohio and the nation has placed Iowa in his top five.

Marcel Frost is one of the top athletes in the country. He is extremely versatile as he has been recruited as a TE, DE, and even at his size, 6'5 240, he has had some talk from schools as a WR. In another strong year for Ohio prospects, Marcel fares as one of the best in the state.

"Right now, I have over 20 offers," Marcel said. "My main offers are from Boston College, Maryland, Duke, Missouri, Louisiville, and everyone in the Big Ten except Ohio State and Michigan. I have a top five of Maryland, Iowa, Michigan State, Boston College, and Florida. Florida has not offered, but they were a childhood favorite of mine."

Marcel had plans to visit Iowa this summer, but those plans fell through. Marcel still did hit some campuses of his favorite schools.

"I took visits to Michigan State, Maryland, and Boston College. They all had their advantages. Michigan State had the biggest campus of the three, Boston College was more of a city atmosphere, and Maryland had the nicest campus to go along with the fact they are between Baltimore and Washington D.C."

Marcel has taken both the SAT and ACT, but fell a few points short of the qualifying score on both. However, Marcel still stresses the importance of academics and should have no problem getting the desired score this fall with a 2.7 GPA.

"Education will be important in my decision. I plan to major in education. I want to be on a team that has the capability to win national championships, and around a coaching staff that I really get to know."

Marcel plans to use all his official visits this fall, and with Iowa being in his top five, you have to figure Iowa will stand a good chance for a visit. How did Marcel gain interest in Iowa?

"First, I really just need to get out there and check out the campus. I like how they use so many different sets and move the TE around. I know they have Dallas Clark so the TE receives the ball a lot."

With a lot of mention of the TE position, does that mean Marcel figures to be on offense in college?

"I have no preference on what side of the ball I play on as it won't affect my decision. I just want the chance to play quickly and make a big splash where the opporunity presents itself."

Iowa has had a long tradition at the TE position. Certainly the presence of potential All-American Dallas Clark and how he is used in the offense will help sway tight end prospects Iowa's way. Could the Hawks land Marcel to add to the list of great Hawkeye TE's? Or will the Hawks possibly target Marcel as the one of the next great DE's like LeRoy Smith and Andre Tippett?
