Scott Chandler

You seemed to have your way in the first half. Did they do something different defensively against you in the second half?

I don‘t know what really went down. That was just the way that the game flowed. You‘ve got to roll with the punches. We pulled it out. That‘s al that matters.

Are your surprised that a team that‘s won one game in two years took you guys to double overtime and almost got you?

No. I know that they were a hungry team. It‘s their home opener. We‘re a Top 20 team in the nation coming in. Their fans were hyped today and their team was hyped and they played hard. They fought the whole 60.

How did you feel the offense played today?

I thought we shot ourselves in the foot a lot today. We had four turnovers. We moved the ball well. It‘s going to be something that we have to work on, not making those mistakes. Last year in the Iowa State game we kind of did the same thing. We‘re just glad that we were able to pull out the win and we can go back to work this week.

What was the mindset of the offense coming in knowing it wasn‘t going to be Drew today?

We really just found out this morning. I don‘t think it really changed. We rallied behind Jason and we knew that he was more than capable of making plays. He‘s a guy that‘s really been dedicated to the program the passed five years and good things happened.

How do you feel he handled himself out there today in terms of controlling the huddle and running the offense?

He showed him determination. He didn‘t always have the ball bounce his way. But he kept on going out there and playing to win. He‘s one for one starting.

When you see a guy playing like that after the position he‘s been in, does that make you want to play harder for him?

We play hard every week. Jason is a guy that everybody on the team respects and everybody looks up to. We all know that everything he‘s gone through hasn‘t always been easy. He stuck with it and he‘s a guy that‘s dedicated to the program. He‘s dedicated to winning. He was ready to go today.

You‘ve heard it and ready it, that next week‘s game means more to Iowa State. Does that get under your skins a little bit?

Yeah, you know, it does. Any time you play an in-state rival, especially when they took it to us last year, we‘ve got to be ready. That‘s something that we have to have happen. It‘s a big game for us.

Do you feel like you guys took a step forward today?

I know we had a good week of practice. You know, it was a hard-fought game. We showed a lot of heart today. We showed ourselves that we can play 60-plus minutes and pull out a win.

Do you think people realize how hard it is to win on the road?

I don‘t think they do. It‘s a completely different environment. It‘s usually quite hostile. It‘s tough.

What was the volume like out there?

It was loud. Most of the time I was having to go off of the ball being snapped because I couldn‘t hear the snap count.
