Harvey "Scooter" McDougle prefers to be called by his nickname of Scooter. Harvey would not be viewed as the normal scooter at his size(6'0 225). However, on the football field, according to Harvey, he still shows the reason why he deserves to be called "Scooter". That is the exact type of RB Iowa will be looking to add this recruiting season for their north-south type running attack.
"Right now, I have offers from West Virginia, Iowa, Toledo, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Miami(OH), and some other smaller schools," Scooter stated. "Wisconsin offered me early in the spring and then just suddenly stopped showing interest so I'm not sure what is up with them. Michigan State is showing strong interest and will likely offer after my first couple games, and Penn State and Virginia are showing interest, also."
Scooter attended camps at West Virginia and Michigan State this summer. Now, Scooter claimed, he just needs to get out and view some campuses, including the one in Iowa City.
"I want to get out and officially visit Iowa as my parents and I have been trying to arrange a trip. Coach O'Keefe stopped by my school and it was real nice to talk to him. I like how high Iowa's graduation rate is and the fact they have so many players achieving at least a 3.0 GPA. The fact that they push education goes a long way in my interest in Iowa."
Scooter carries a 2.8 GPA in the classroom, but is a few points short of the qualifying test score. Although Scooter has football and recruiting mainly on his mind, his future will be determined by his academics. Achieving the qualifying test score will be very important to Scooter, and the importance he has put on his test score has kept schools from backing off.
Scooter's talents as a football player have many schools vying for his services. Now Scooter will have to go through the process of choosing which school will fit him best.
"Education will be most important because I want to graduate and earn a degree. I also just want to feel the most comfortable at the school of my choice with my teammates and coaches. Sitting on the bench is not ideal for me, either."
Scooter will be going through the recruiting process with a teammate and close friend, LB/DE Reggie Smith.
"Iowa has offered Reggie and I know he has some interest. We'd like the chance to play together in college, and I would not be surprised to see both of us visit Iowa together."
Iowa is trying to make a bigger presence in the state of Ohio this recruiting season. There may not be a better way to start off then landing the deadly combo from East Cleveland.
Will the Hawks be featuring a "Scooter" in their backfield sometime soon?
