Tate Had Tuesday Surgery; Out vs NIU

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said today that quarterback Drew Tate had successful surgery this morning and that he would miss Iowa's upcoming game against Northern Illinois...

Ferentz said that there was a procedure on a ligament in his left hand.

Ferentz said that he hoped that Tate could rejoin the team next week. He also added that one of the reasons that Tate is being held out is the fear of infection, as there was an incision.

Tate appeared to have injured his left hand during Iowa's game against Michigan last week. His left thumb was taped, which was visible from ABC's television cameras during the broadcast.

Jason Manson and Jake Christensen were listed as Co-Number 1's on this week's depth chart.

Ferentz also said today that Shonn Greene had some work done on his knee and would be out this week, as well as Adam Shada and Champ Davis would not be available.

Ken Iwebema and Dace Richardson will try to practice this week, according to Ferentz.
