Taylor Escamilla had visited Iowa City in April for the Scout.com combine. At that combine, he put up some impressive numbers. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing in at 270 pounds, Taylor was consistently near the top of the list among defensive tackles. His numbers are below.
Taylor said he had added 10 pounds to his frame since the combine, up to 280 pounds, but the season has taken a bit of that off, weighing in at 275 pounds, currently.
Recently, Escamilla received a letter from the Iowa coaching staff asking him to unofficially visit Iowa City on November 10th, when Iowa takes on Wisconsin.
Escamilla, who is a highly-rated wrestler as well, has been receiving letters from Iowa on a pretty regular, if not daily, basis, according to Escamilla's father, Dan.
Escamilla has a scholarship offer to wrestle for the University of Nebraska – Omaha, but is hoping for some football offers, giving his as many choices as possible. The University of Nebraska Cornhuskers have also been interested in Escamilla, inviting him to Lincoln to watch several games.
Taylor said if given the choice between walking on and playing football or wrestling on scholarship, he would choose wrestling, likely at UN-O.
Escamilla is part of a very solid defense for his high school, Archbishop Bergon. Taylor says the team has given up no more than 17 points in any game this year, winning their most recent game with two defensive touchdowns. In that game, he had 12 total tackles, 2 sacks, a blocked field goal, and a fumble recovery.
We'll check back in with Escamilla following his visit, to see what he thought of Kinnick Stadium on senior day.
