Citadel Postgame: Cyrus Tate Transcript

Cyrus Tate spoke with the media on Monday. Read what he had to say in this premium transcript.

Q: How did it feel to get out there for the first official game of the season?

Cyrus Tate: It felt pretty good. A slow start in the beginning of the game, getting used to playing in crowds like this. Just trying to build my confidence. Hopefully I did that, and I can contribute to the team more for the rest of the season.

Q: It looked like in the 2nd half you became a little more patient, a little more relaxed. 13 points in your first game here at Carver. You've got to be happy with your individual effort.

Tate: I felt pretty good about getting 13 points, but I really want to emphasize on rebounds, I haven't really done a good job there in the exhibition game and this game. I need to work on my rebounds, do a better job there.

Q: Adam had 29 points tonight. How big is it to have a guy like him with so many newcomers on this team to lead the way for yourself and some other guys?

Tate: It's very important, he's a great leader. He makes shots, he's a playmaker. I try and get him screens, get him open so he can make those crucial shots.

Q: You guys leave for a 12 day road trip, four games, what do you expect to take from that trip?

Tate: It's my first time out of the country, I'm just really looking forward to it. I plan on playing hard and hopefully winning the tournament.

Q: It looked like Tyler was maybe pushing it a bit on himself, putting a lot of pressure on himself tonight. Talk about his performance. Two points and fouling out. Did it seem like he was pressing a little bit?

Tate: Tyler's a great player. It was his first game, after the suspension he had. It's going to take some time for him to adjust. He's going to be alright, he'll be fine during the course of the season. When we get to the islands, he'll be much more for us. He's a great player who can do a lot of things for us.

Q: Coming into the season, everyone knew about the guards that this team had, how are the Big Men, yourself and Seth and Kurt progressing and how important is it for you guys to keep moving along?

Tate: It's very important. A lot of people say that we have a real good backcourt. As far as the bigs, we just push each other every day in practice. We just get the best out of each other. You get the best out of yourself in practice, you get to have fun and do everything you need to do in the game.
