Mike Holmes, an off-the-radar prospect from Mandarin HS in Jacksonville, Florida took a visit to Iowa City this weekend. Iowa only recently began recruiting Holmes, with interest picking up approximately one month ago.
"I talked to the recruiter, and he just started telling me about the school," Holmes said. "I told him I'd come up on a visit."
Holmes currently lines up at running back, but is also being recruited as a DB by some schools. Iowa is recruiting Holmes at running back, while Syracuse wants him as a defensive back.
He currently holds offers from Iowa, Indiana, Syracuse, UConn, and Middle Tennessee State. Holmes visited Syracuse last week, with a visit to Indiana planned for January.
Holmes cited the coaching staff and traditions of each program as a determining factor for his final decision, one he doesn't plan to make until next month.
Holmes is also a member of his high school track team, running hurdles, running the second leg of the 4x100 relay, and the anchor leg of the 4x400. His team took second place at the state championships in the 4x100 this year.
Holmes, who ran for 1083 yards on 174 carries (6.3 ypc) and scored 15 touchdowns his senior year, rated his Iowa visit an 8 out of 10.
We'll be sure to check in with Holmes following his visit to Indiana next month as he nears a decision.
