Hawks View New Dimension in Sibling Roberts

Success has shown in siblings, as in the example of the recent commitment by Scott Chandler (brother of QB Nathan Chandler). This time around, the Hawks are once again looking at the younger brother of a Hawkeye and the player once again hails from Texas. 6'1 190 ATH Calvin Roberts ranks among the best in Texas, and he put his recruitment in perspective to HTO.com.

Until this fall, there had always been three high schools in the Port Arthur area in Texas. This year, the decision was made to merge all three high schools, which allows the football team to put the best talent available in Port Arthur on the same field at the same time. Two prospects who have now received the chance to play together are ATH Calvin Roberts and RB James Johnson.

Calvin Roberts is not a guy that a lot have heard about through the net, but it is no secret in Texas just exactly how highly his talents are rated. Calvin virtually has offers from every program in America, and the Hawks have one edge over the others in current FS Jermire Roberts, who happens to be Calvin's older brother.

"Jermire and I are real close," Calvin stated. "I would love the chance to play football with him, but I do not know a whole lot about Iowa right now. Jermire doesn't come home too often so I haven't gotten to speak to him much about Iowa City. However, I know that he said it is a good school and a good football program. I like the amount of interest that Iowa is showing in me."

The top schools on Calvin's list rank among the top programs in america. He has been offered by all his favorites including Miami(FL), LSU, Florida, UCLA, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa, and Purdue. That is a very impressive list of offers for Calvin. It is not hard to see that he has the opporunity to play for any program in the nation. One school does stick out in Calvin's mind at the moment.

"Miami is my leader right now. I just like the city of Miami, period," Calvin said without hesitation. "I know that right now I'd like to officially visit Miami, LSU, Florida, UCLA, and the fifth visit is up for consideration. It is early so changes can occur to my list."

So with the strong presence of Texas and Texas A&M, how come Calvin did not mention any in-state schools on his list?

"I'm giving A&M a bit of consideration, but I don't feel like I fit in at Texas. I think right now that I would rather leave the state."

What will Calvin be looking for in his visits to help him make the selection of his future destination?

"It is still too early at the moment to really figure that out. I do know that I just want to play for somebody who is going to let me play early. The sooner I get the chance to play, the better the opporunity."

Calvin is featured at quarterback this fall for Port Arthur, but with 10.4 speed in the 100 and 21.4 in the 200, it is not hard to see envisioning of him at other positions by schools.

"I'd prefer to play quarterback. I really just want to be on offense so I'd give wide receiver and running back a chance, too."

Iowa has room to make up in Calvin's recruitment, but it is only the start of the fall. With a strong season and bowl appearance, will the Hawks be able to land an official visit? Hawkeye Jermire Roberts probably is hoping for the chance to play with his younger brother, and also to get the chance for a possible duel amongst the safety and potential wide receiver.
