Jake McDonough, a 6-5, 225 pound DE out of Valley HS in West Des Moines, Iowa has picked up his first offer, from the Kansas Jayhawks.

"First off, they sent me a questionnaire like normal," McDonough said. "Then they told me they were interested, then they gave me a phone number to call. I called and sent down a highlight tape. He got the highlight tape and told me they were very impressed and wanted to keep a close eye on me."

Back in March, Jake had said most schools had been talking about a summer offer, but that changed on Wednesday.

"I got a text message today saying 'Do you want to be a Jayhawk?'" he said on Wednesday. "So I called him and that's when he offered me.

"First off, my jaw dropped to the floor. I was just kind of in shock. I wasn't expecting a scholarship until later, maybe in the summer. I was just really happy. I was freaking out."

Jake says Kansas is now near the top of his list, along with Iowa, Iowa State, and Louisville. He hopes to make it down to Lawrence to see the Kansas spring game. We'll check in throughout the spring to see how Jake's progressing.
