KC Notebook: Steven Staggs

Prep football players from the state of Iowa don't always receive national attention. Some fly under the radar only to burst on the scene late in the process. WR Steve Staggs might be one of those players. Brian Finley checks in with notes and quotes from Staggs at the Scout.com combine in Kansas City.

(On the type of player he is)

I like to stretch the field, go deep, I can go get the ball. I can also run the quick route to get the guy off me. I like to play physical.

(On what he's hearing from schools in terms of future offers)

They've all said I'm at the top of the list heading into summer camps, so hopefully.

Staggs was a player who has flown completely under the radar until now. Back in January, he ran at the San Antonio combine, just after getting a cast off his leg and put up a 4.75 in the 40-yard dash. He improved dramatically on that number, posting a 4.43 and a 4.5. Before he ran, he told me he was hoping to get in the low 4.5s, so this was definitely a nice showing for him. In positional drills, he did quite well both with and without a defender on him. Several times he went up for a jump ball and came down with it, keeping in-bounds as well. In talking with several Scout.com analysts, they all had great things to say about Staggs, who may end up being overshadowed but some of the smaller sub-4.4 guys there. Staggs should be in line for some offers soon, maybe even before summer camps begin.
