Wilburn Hollis Named Honorary Captain

IOWA CITY, IA. – Former All-American Iowa football quarterback Wilburn Hollis has been named honorary captain for this week's game against Utah State. Hollis, now a resident of Cedar Rapids, will be with the Hawkeyes on the sidelines and will join the Iowa captains for the pre-game coin flip.

Hollis was a three-year letterman (1959-61) with the Hawkeyes. He was named to the ABC-TV all-America team in 1960 and was also first team all-Big Ten that year. He led Iowa to a share of the Big Ten title that same year. He rushed for 477 yards and threw three touchdown passes as a junior. He scored 48 points in six Big Ten games to tie for the league lead. Hollis was a 6-2, 200-pounder from Boys Town, NE. He was an Iowa captain in 1961 when, because of a wrist injury, he played only twogames.
