How big of a deal is it for you to sign with Iowa on Wednesday?
It's a huge deal. I finally found the place for me and it's just good for me. I love that I'm going there. I just can't wait to get there. It's been an unbelievable experience for me.
What are your plans for signing day? Are you going to do something at the school?
I believe I'm going to sign it in the morning and then fax it on over to the (Iowa) coaching staff. Then, I'm going to make copies of it and then sign a fake one during our press conference at school.
Oh, so you're doing that in the afternoon?
Yes. And then I'm going to do another fake signing with a basketball camp.
So, it really is a big deal.
Yes. I'm looking forward to it.
Your recruitment with Iowa was kind of a whirlwind, wasn't it? It kind of happened fast.
Yeah, it happened fast, but when you find the perfect fit it doesn't matter how fast or how slow you get into something. Everything happens for a reason, and I'm happy, extremely happy.
What other schools were involved in your recruitment and what other schools offered you scholarships?
Oh boy, um…
How about maybe a top few you were looking at that had interest in you?
Were you leaning a certain way or in your mind was there a favorite before Iowa got in there?
I was just trying to find the right fit and I had my mind wide open. When I got to Iowa, I just saw how passionate the fans are and how Coach (Todd) Lickliter's system fits me really well and how nice the coaching staff is and all the players were great. The academics are great there. It just all fit for me.
It what way does this system fit your game?
The big men in Coach Lickliter's system have to be versatile. I think of myself as a versatile big man. So, that fits me pretty well.
What part or parts of your game are you focusing on improving for this last prep season and going into the spring and summer?
The biggest thing that I'm going to try to improve is my strength. That's true for any player going into the Big Ten. You have to get stronger and quicker. I'm just going to keep trying to improve each and every day.
Were you a Golden Gophers fan when you were growing up or was there a school that you pulled for?
I was more of a Timberwolves fan. I was always about the NBA.
You played AAU with Anthony Tucker. How well do you know him and how nice is it to come in with someone with whom you have some familiarity?
He's a great guy. He's something else. He's great on the court and he's great off the court. You couldn't ask for a better teammate.
How would you describe his game?
I would have to say that he's probably the most poised basketball player I have ever played with. He's one of the smartest players I've ever played with, too. He's just really, really, really, really good. When he handles the ball he just has everything under control. He beats his guy when he wants to beat him. He doesn't get flustered. He doesn't get a big turnover late in games. He's just always poised.
What are your goals for your high school season?
I want to win the state championship. We have improved a lot since last year. We are returning all of our starters. Right now we are going into school at 6 a.m. three times a week and doing plyometrics and lifting weights. That will help the team a lot. That's kind of like our captains' practice. Practice starts the week after Thanksgiving for us.
There were some pretty good academic universities showing interest in you. Do you have an idea of what you might like to study in school?
Right now I'm leaning a little bit more towards engineering. The other runner up for me was business, some sort of business degree.
What type of GPA do you carry and what were your test scores?
I have a 3.7 GPA and I got a 26 on my ACT.
