Q: Pretty nice week for you…
James Vandenberg: It's great. Winning the state title was a perfect ending to our season. It makes it an even better week that I end up getting the offer afterwards.
Q: How did you hear about it?
Vandenberg: Coach Ferentz called me while I was in a team picture. Afterwards, I listened to his voicemail. I called back, and he informed me I had a scholarship from the University of Iowa.
Q: Did you guys talk much?
Vandenberg: We talked about our seasons, our teams, but he only told me until the end of the conversation. He didn't tell me until the very end. We talked a bit about an official visit.
Q: Any Iowa visits scheduled?
Vandenberg: We'll decide sometime soon. They're going to work it around my basketball schedule.
Q: Does it change your top schools at all?
Vandenberg: It's great to get an offer from Iowa. It's always been one of my favorite schools. I've talked to them for a long time, hoped I'd been able to get an offer from them. It was great to finally get that today.
Q: Is it tough, waiting all season for offers, then having two come quickly? Does it feel like things are rolling for you?
Vandenberg: It didn't really stress me out during the season, I just really wanted to concentrate on our team. We achieved our final goal, now this is all coming at the same time. It's a great feeling.
Q: At what point during the season did you realize the sorts of records you were in line to break?
Vandenberg: Not until the end. Those records couldn't be done without the great guys I play with. I'm lucky to play with such a great group of guys.
Q: Any Nebraska visits scheduled right now?
Vandenberg: I plan on taking an official sometime, and an official to Iowa and Northern Illinois sometime in the next month.
Q: Are you hoping to get the decision out of the way soon?
Vandenberg: There's not really any timeline on it. Sometime soon, hopefully.
Q: What differentiates between Iowa and Nebraska?
Vandenberg: Not much. They're both great programs with great coaches. They both get great athletes every year. Either place would be great for me, and I'll be a hard decision.
