Many had expected the Hawks' efforts to be slowed a bit this year in regards to JUCO recruiting, especially at the quarterback position. That is in large part due to the signing of two quarterbacks in the class of 02'. However, early reports this fall had the Hawks as one of the first offers for QB Mark Hetherington.
To show that reports do not always pan out, HTO.com was able to confirm that the Hawks have yet to offer any JUCO QB.
"Iowa has mailed over 150 letters to myself, but I have yet to talk to them," Mark Hetherington stated. "I've seen the reports of offers from Iowa and Oregon State, but neither school has called at this point. Right now, I have offers from Idaho State and Nevada. Arizona has called me once this fall."
So what have the Hawks included in their writings sent to Mark?
"They have sent some quotes from Winston Churchill and past presidents about winning. It has been pretty general, and not too personal. Therefore, I don't believe Iowa has a serious interest at this time."
However, Iowa has shown to pick-up their interest in JUCO QB's once the season nears an end, could that happen with Hetherington?
"My coach told me that JUCO Quarterbacks are regarded differently. Many schools wait until after the season to see if the younger guys have panned out and who will be returning. I'm not going to be picky. I just want a free education, a chance to play, and have some fun."
HTO.com will keep Hawk fans informed of any developments in the recruitment of JUCO QB Mark Hetherington.
