And from the first whistle of the day, it would be the Hawkeyes day. Iowa won each of their consolation matches out of the chute, and then Joe Slaton (133), Dan Leclere (141), Brent Metcalf (149), Mark Perry (165) and Jay Borschell (174) won their championship bracket matches, propelling them into tonight's final round of action that will be televised live on The Big Ten Network at 7:00pm.
Perry, the defending national champion at 165-pounds, is 4-0 in the tournament, with four falls. Perry is 9-1 on the season, all nine of his wins coming by fall.
Iowa did not lose a point scoring match through the first three hours of the tournament, until Matt Fields lost in the consolation bracket..
The Hawkeyes are on pace to recapture the Midland's crown, which was won by Iowa State last year. As of the 3:10pm update, Iowa was in first place with 154 points, and Iowa State second with 122 points. Iowa State scored 154.5 points last year to capture the title by nearly 50 points over Iowa.
The Hawkeyes have racked up bonus points during this tournament, their first real ‘nationals-like' event of the year.
