Hawkeyes Making Presence Known in Indiana

Another talented player in the state, A.J. Ratliff, a 6-2 175 pound combo guard from Indianapolis, IN North Central High School, spent time in Iowa City this past weekend. HTO.com Basketball Editor Matt Haas caught up with him as he took in the Black & Gold Basketball Blowout game on Saturday.

Head Coach Steve Alford and the Iowa Hawkeyes are definitely making their presence known with the talented underclassmen in the state of Indiana.

The Hawkeyes have already received a verbal commitment from one of the best juniors in the Hoosier state in J.R. Angle. Angle, a 6-6 190 pound wing forward from Trafalgar, IN Indian Creek High School, was one of only five juniors to participate in the USA 5th Annual Men's Youth Developmental Festival in Colorado Springs, CO this past summer.

Ratliff, who received All County and Honorable Mention All State as a sophomore last season for the North Central Panthers stated that one of the things that intrigues him about the Hawkeyes is the fact that Coach Alford is a winner. "Coach Alford wants to win, he's a competitor," Ratliff said. "I like that because that's what I am."

Ratliff mentioned quite a few things that really caught his eye about Iowa. "I really like the atmosphere here, everything from the campus to the coaches and the players that are in the program," Ratliff stated.

Ratliff, who averaged 15 points and four rebounds as a sophomore, is listed by numerous recruiting websites as the top junior in the state of Indiana. Ratliff listed Michigan State, North Carolina State, Indiana, Purdue, Xavier, Iowa State, Notre Dame and Memphis as schools that are currently recruiting him.

The Hawkeyes are also hot on the trail of two of the top sophomores in the state of Indiana. Josh McRoberts, a 6-9 205 pound center from Carmel, IN has already taken an unofficial visit to Iowa this fall, and Luke Zeller, a 6-11 200 pound center from Washington, IN has yet to visit Iowa this fall, but has paid the Hawkeyes two unofficial visits in the past.
