Schofield Gaining Offers; Ready to Travel

One of the hottest prospects in the Midwest recently has been Illinois OT Michael Schofield. Seemingly receiving a new offer every day, Schofield is now done with school for the year and starting to take more visits. His travel itinerary includes a stop in Iowa City.

Orland Park Sandburg offensive tackle Michael Schofield is rapidly approaching 20 offers. Schofield has been on a roll lately, grabbing offers from Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State among others. Just this week, he received another offer from a program with a storied football tradition.

"Michael picked up an offer from Miami (FL)," Schofield's father said, "They sent an e-mail and said they were extending an offer and we should get it in the next day or two."

Now that school is over, Michael is also able to devote more time to the recruiting process and has a week full of visits ahead of him.

"Michael will be visiting Iowa on Friday, Purdue on Monday and Michigan on Tuesday," his father reported, "he starts his high school football camp on the 16th so he won't be able to get as much stuff in."

The 6'6, 270-lb Schofield is keeping things wide open and while most of the schools that have offered him are in the Midwest, he does have some suitors in far away corners of the United States, but location is not a factor. In fact, the Schofields would like to visit the newly offering Hurricanes.

"We would like to visit [Miami], but we're still looking at trying to plan out the summer we actually just walked in from Notre Dame."

As for the Notre Dame visit, Mr. Schofield said, "It went real well, Michael had a chance to talk to Coach Weiss for probably an hour one on one and a chance to sit and talk to the offensive line coach and his recruiting coach and academic advisors and the dean of admissions."

Schofield has also recently received offers from Purdue, Oregon, Cincinnati and Colorado among others.
