Angerer Loves Backing up Iowa Line

Iowa linebacker Pat Angerer acknowledged the fact the the Hawkeye defense had quite a bit of success at Saturday's open practice. But he was quick to point out that it helps when Mitch King and Matt Kroul are anchoring the line...

Q: You guys really had your way with the offense today.

Pat Angerer: The defense has some things figured out and we were a little faster and a lot smarter than the offense. There kind of crazy, those offensive guys. What also really helps is having Mitch King and Matt Kroul in front of you.

Q: What have you been able to see out of Jake in this camp?

Angerer: That guy is a competitor out there. I don't know why everybody was dogging him last year. I love that guy, and I would do anything for him. I think world of him. Whoever plays quarterback is going to do well.

Q: Talk about the competition at middle linebacker between you and Jacody. How has that helped both of you improve?

Angerer: Obviously, anytime you're in a competition it brings out the best in both people. It's not necessarily a competition, rather were are all trying to improve each day and we are trying to help each other out, and hopefully we can benefit the team.

Q: What are you seeing from the younger guys?

Angerer: The younger guys are learning really fast. Every year you want to help them out and try to give them a little help.
