Interesting Notes (AKA, stuff to make you sound cool at your tailgate)

  • In the 55 Iowa/ISU games played, Iowa averages 7.32 more points per game, one of the largest per-game totals against a BCS-Conference school
  • Iowa has played ISU twice on September 13th. Winning 43-7 in 1986 and 40-21 in 2003.
  • Iowa has no players from Ames. Iowa State has one player from Iowa City, Sophomore DB Michael O'Connell, Regina class of 2005.
  • Two Hawkeyes celebrate their birthdays this week, with Chris Rowell celebrating his 21st birthday on Wednesday the 10th, and Brett Greenwood celbrating his 21st on Sunday.
  • The Cyclones and Hawkeyes have a pair of former teammates from the state of Texas in Iowa's David Cato and ISU's Ter'Ran Benton. Both Iowa and Iowa State recruited both players, and both, surprisingly, have seen plenty of playing time as true freshmen.
  • In the 2007 Nebraska state finals, an 11th-grade Shaun Prater and 12th-grade Phillip Bates each ran lead leg of the 4x100 relay. Prater's team edged Bates' team for the win by less than .3 of a second to take the state title.
