Head Coach Dave Maimaron says that the Hawkeyes are getting a special player as well as a person.
"They are getting quite a kid. He is a great kid, a great football player." Maimaron said. "I think he loved it out there. He has taken two visits, and Coach Ferentz has created a family atmosphere out there. It's a long way for a kid from Boston to go out there to go to school. I think he will be very comfortable."
Maimaron said that Dibona's ability to play aggressively and at a high rate has allowed him to stand out for a school that usually produces more Division III level football players than BCS conference prospects.
"I think his best quality on the field is his explosiveness. He goes from zero to full speed in a couple of steps. Whether it's on offense or defense, I think that is his greatest attribute."
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Dibona plays fullback and defensive end for Duxbury, and he told Brian Finley of HawkeyeNation.com back in October that Iowa was the only school that was interested in him on offense.
"Iowa is the only school that is interested in me as a fullback. I play tailback and defensive end for my high school team right now, but some of the other schools are looking at me as a linebacker." Dibona said. "I would like to stay on the offensive side of the ball if I could. I just seem to like that better."
Coach Maimaron felt before the season that offense was in the future of his star player, but now he is not as certain.
"Until this year he was a much better offensive player. But his senior year, he is playing tremendous for us. He plays defensive end in our 4-3 scheme and he is doing a great job for us there."
"Until this season, I would have said he was a better offensive player, but now I am not sure. I think he could help them on either side. He is also a really good receiver; he could possibly wind up being an ‘H Back'. Fullback, ‘H back' or outside linebacker."
Dibona and his team are preparing for a must win game this Saturday, with the hopes of continuing their season.
"We are playing for a league championship Saturday night, and we are 9-0. Hopefully we win and make it to the playoffs." Maimaron said.
