Mattison Makes A Tough Decision

It was a tough decision for Mishawaka, IN (Penn) DE Bryan Mattison. After deciding playing under his father (Greg) at Notre Dame was not the best option, his decision boiled down to Iowa and Colorado. Iowa made a last mintue stampede to claim the commitment. Here is Bryan's thoughts on the commitment, plus comments from Greg Mattison.

Bryan Mattison was the 14th of 15 known commitments to make his pledge to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

"I visited both Colorado and Iowa," said defensive lineman Bryan Mattison.

"I came home from Colorado and I knew I had a tough decision in front of me.

"I talked it over with my parents and after a long discussion, we came to the conclusion that Iowa was the best fit for me.

"It was the toughest decision I've ever had to make. I liked both schools and their coaches a lot."

Mattison, a 6-foot-4, 240-pounder, from Mishawaka (Ind.) Penn was named all-state in 2002.

Mattison's father, Greg, is the defensive line coach for Notre Dame.

Coach Mattison had this to say about his decision to pledge Iowa.

"We're very proud of Bryan," Mattison said. "My wife and I really like the Iowa staff and we're pleased with his decision.

"I feel that Bryan's best football is ahead of him. He has a real upside."
