Texas QB Drew Tate Looking at Iowa

Baytown (Lee) gunslinger Drew Tate is verbally committed to Texas A&M but he's decided to look around after head coach R.C. Slocum was fired. Iowa, Houston and Tennessee are in the picture.

"Right now, Drew is committed to Texas A&M," said the father of Drew Tate.

"We visited Iowa and we really liked Kirk Ferentz and the rest of the coaches. Drew made a comment that it's a little colder in Iowa than it is in Houston. I got a chuckle out of that comment.

"Hawaii is pretty much out of the picture because of the distance. Tennessee called but we haven't heard much lately.

"The University of Houston is very much in the picture now but like I said before, Drew is committed to Texas A&M.

"Nothing against coach Francione but coach Slocum and coach Sumlin ran a wide open style offense at A&M."

Tate, a 6-foot-1, 180-pounder, from Baytown (Texas) Lee was named all-state in 2002.

The past two seasons, Drew threw for 8,000 yards and 81 touchdowns.
