Florida Running Back Talks Hawks

The University of Iowa Hawkeyes recently played host to Class of 2010 RB James White. He spoke to Hawkeye Nation about his recruitment, the schools involved, his thoughts on the Iowa staff and more...

When you run a 4.43-40 yard dash (electronically timed), and can carry a football with punishing power and agility - you will get noticed.

Such is the case with Ft. Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas) RB James White. He is being courted by many schools.

"I have 12 offers at the present time." White said. "They are all on my list, and I do not have a favorite. I am wide open with everybody - just trying to see what they have to offer me."

Presently, his offer sheet lists the following schools: Boston College, Clemson, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin - among others. For White, playing time is not his biggest concern. Nor is distance from his hometown an issue when he gets to making a college choice.

"A place where I can get good academics is the big thing." James stated. "I am also looking for a very good coaching staff and a family atmosphere."

On his recent visit to Iowa City, White had the chance to meet many of the Iowa football coaching staff. He walked away impressed.

"I met Coach (Lester) Erb, Coach Eric Johnson, and Coach Ferentz." White said. "He (Ferentz) is very nice and very down to Earth. He has been coaching a long time. I liked him. He wanted to know about my personal life and football, both."

The one thing he wants people to know is that he is not your typical running back. Listed at 5'11", 190 pounds - when you get James White, you are getting a delicious blend of herbs and spices on the field.

In the 2008 season, he totaled over 1400 yards of total offense and scored 19 total touchdowns.

"I am one of the kids you think will not do anything." James claims. "But, I will surprise you. I am a balanced back who is not afraid to run you over. But, I can also get by you."
