Townsend Names Leader

After many believed Iowa had fallen out of the picture for WR James Townsend due to his cancellation of a December official visit, the Hawks may be in their best shape yet. In this report, James Townsend names the leader of his services, which will appear to be a battle between the Hawkeyes and Gamecocks.

"I visited South Carolina (12-13) in December," said wide receiver James Townsend.

"I'm going to West Virginia (1-10), Iowa (1-17) and Michigan State (1-24) in January.

"Iowa is my leader right now. I've been watching them all year and they spread the ball around. Iowa has good receivers and I think I'll have a chance to play early if I decide to go there."

Townsend, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, from Delran (NJ) Holy Cross is a three-year varsity starter that was named all-region in 2002.

Townsend had 2,113 yards receiving and 30 touchdowns combined as a junior and senior.
