Lickliter Says Archie Will Redshirt

After hinting throughout the season his desire for Devon Archie to redshirt, Iowa Coach Todd Lickliter announced on Monday that the JC transfer would do just that.

IOWA CITY, Ia. - Todd Lickliter had stated throughout the early season that he felt a redshirt for Devon Archie was the way to go. On Monday, the Iowa Coach indicated that it would happen.

"I anticipate him redshirting unless we found it was something that we just couldn't do and it would be to the detriment of this team," Lickliter said. "That's not fair. But I don't think that will be the case. I think in everybody's best interest, it's best for him to get back in the weight room, four days a week, learn the system and be that far ahead and give us two really productive years." The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Archie tranferred into Iowa from Vincennes (Ind) Junior College this season. He broke his clavical at the beginning of the season and then came down with pneumonia this month.

"He went a solid eight minutes (in Sunday's practice)," Lickliter said. "I kind of laugh. He hadn't been able to practice much. He actually had pneumonia. They finally diagnosed it.

"He warmed up (Sunday) and it's going to be a process for him. He got involved a little bit more (Monday) morning. I just anticipate him getting more involved (in practice)." Archie averaged 6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks at Vincennes last season. He played his high school basketball at Ben Davis in Indianapolis.
