Iowa Hoping to Land Another FL Back in '11

After scoring De'Andre Johnson from Miami in its most recent recruiting class, Iowa hopes to grab another running back from the Sunshine State in 2011. Bradenton's Mike Blakely recently secured an offer from the Hawkeyes. Read what he had to say about Iowa and his game in this update.

After pulling a running back out of Florida in Miami's De'Andre Johnson for the 2010 class, Iowa is heading back into the Sunshine State in hopes of landing another ball carrier.

Manatee High (Bradenton, FL) back Mike Blakely has received an offer from the Hawkeyes. Clemson, Iowa State, Rutgers, South Florida and Syracuse also are on board.

"It's hard to really say where I'm at in recruiting," Blakely said. "I'm being recruited pretty heavily, so I'm just trying to take it all in."

Blakely said that he doesn't know much about the Hawkeyes as he's just started his research on the school and program. He said that his prep coach is talking to most of the colleges at this point.

Blakely has visited Florida, Georgia and Alabama, none of which have offered scholarships.

"Those are my top schools," Blakely said.

As a junior, Blakely ran for 1,323 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also caught 30 passes for 313 yards and two scores.

"I'd say I'm a pretty good all-around back," Blakely said. "I need some work on pass blocking. I'm smaller at 175-180 pounds, so I need to work on learning how to block."

Blakely said he's looking to play in the Power-I offense or any attack that leans on running the football.
