Texas Receiver Impressed with Iowa Visit

Travel mate JaCorey Shepherd committed to Iowa after visiting this weekend. Fellow Texas native Jay Lee is close but not there yet. Find out what the talented receiver said about the Hawkeyes and more in this recruiting update.

New Hawkeye commitment JaCorey Shepherd traveled to Iowa City with another 2011 Texas receiver this past weekend - Allen High's Jay Lee. Although the latter wasn't ready to make the call for a college yet, he came away impressed with the visit and placed Iowa among the favorites for his services.

"I'd say that Iowa and Baylor are my Top 2," Lee said. "I'm looking for a place where I get along with the players and the coaches because I'll be there for at least four years. I saw that at Iowa."

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Lee holds 11 offers, including Iowa, Baylor, SMU and Arkansas, who he names as his Top 4. Nebraska, Purdue and Illinois are among the other schools that have offered.

"I'm probably going to make my decision towards the end of spring ball (for his high school)," Lee said.

Lee said he's going to try to visit Tulsa in the next few weeks but doesn't have any other trips in mind. He liked what he saw at Iowa.

"It was a great campus, a good community," he said. "I really liked the people there. They were very welcoming. I liked how it was set up with everything close to campus. We went out to a mall and got something to eat. Everything is right there."

The Iowa coaches sold early playing time to Lee as it has with its other receiving target in ‘11.

"They said that basically after this year they're going to need receivers," Lee said. "They said that me and JaCorey could come in and be in the first or second rotation if we work hard. That‘s something you like to hear."
