Johnson, 30, has served as Iowa football's Quality Control Assistant the last three years. He was a Hawkeye graduate assistant for one year prior to that. He'll take over the position previously occupied by Reese Morgan. Morgan, last week, was named Iowa's new offensive line coach.
"Eric has done a tremendous job serving our program the past four years as a graduate assistant coach as well as Quality Control Assistant," said Ferentz. "We are appreciative of his contributions and I am confident Eric will do a great job in his dual role as our tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator."
Johnson joined Ferentz and his first Iowa staff in 1999. He had previously worked at Vanderbilt University and has been in charge of Iowa's Ambassador's program. He and his wife Patsy have no children.
