Josh Harvey grew up in Pleasantville, a small town outside of Des Moines. A three-sport athlete, he played baseball, golf, and basketball in high school, earning All-Conference honors in golf and baseball.
He attended Bemidji State University in Northern Minnesota and made the golf team. But, Harvey said he decided to forgo the sport to focus on Mass Communication.
In college he became the campus radio station's station manager and served as the play-by-play announcer for the school's football and basketball teams, traveling all around the country.
After graduating, Harvey worked for John Walters, at ABC5 in Des Moines as an assistant to the sports department. It was then, when he finally experienced the opportunity to cover the University of Iowa for a job.
"My favorite time at ABC5 was the Iowa/Ohio State prime time game in 2006. The Hawks lost, but to experience an atmosphere like that was amazing. I was on the field when Iowa came out of the tunnel and thought to myself this is the life," said Harvey. Since then, he has moved to Texas, working at WFAA-TV Channel 8 ABC in Dallas, where he's a full-time sports producer and a WFAA.com Sports Reporter.
Harvey has been married for five years, and his wife is an associate pastor. The couple live in Fort Worth.
"I can't wait to get started covering the Hawks. I look forward to getting to know HawkeyeInsider.com's members, and I know they will feel that I'm a big asset to the site.
