The consensus in most locker rooms is that a team can never have to many good corners. It's the approach that Iowa would like to take in 2011 recruiting class. The Hawkeyes are still looking for their first commitment at the position. One target is Pickerington Central's (Ohio) Tamani Carter. The soon to be senior is now up to six offers.
"Iowa, Stanford, Kent State, Air Force, Minnesota, and Arizona have all offered me," said Carter to HawkeyeInsider.com. "Air Force is my most recent one. I have visited Stanford and my next visit should be to Iowa really soon. I'm looking to visit Iowa before the summer is over and my season starts."
As a junior, the 5'11, 180-lb Carter had five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 11 pass breakups and 48 tackles. While he did see some time last year as a receiver (10 receptions), he is looking to play both ways full-time in 2010.
"This season I'm looking to make a bigger impact on the offense as well as on the defensive side of the ball," said Carter. "I have been watching a lot of film this summer to get a feel for what teams are going to do. It should help me on the field make better decisions."
So without a visit to Iowa City yet, what does the Scout.com 3-star cornerback know about the Hawks?
"I know they are really strong o nthe defensive side of the ball and they have been having some major success in the Big Ten every year," said the Scout.com nationally ranked No. 99 cornerback. "I also know they are looking to take a lot of defensive backs in this class. I'm excited for the visit. I want a feel for the program and atmosphere in Iowa, so I can compare it to other schools.
"I would like to try to stay as close as possible, but I don't know. I would say Iowa is the perfect distance for me. People could still be close enough to see me play."
Carter runs a 4.48 forty and will look to gain about five pounds before the start of the season. Pickerington Central finished 10-2 last season and return many starters from last year's squad.
"Our team is supposed to be really good this season. We have looked really good during the summer workouts. We go three times a week and lift. We are supposed to start two a days in the beginning of August," said Carter.
HawkeyeInsider.com will continue to monitor Tamani Carter's recruitment and let Iowa fans know if anything breaks.
