IOWA CITY, IA - - Senior guard Chauncey Leslie has been selected to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) all-District VI team, which was announced today. The 10-player team includes Division I men's basketball players from Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Leslie, a 6-0 guard from Rochester, NY, joined the Iowa program for the last two seasons after attending Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. He has been Iowa's leading scorer and most consistent performer throughout the season, averaging 15.6 points while scoring in double figures in 25 of 27 games. He has led the team in scoring 13 times and scored 20 or more points in seven outings, scoring a career-high 25 points against Ohio State.
Leslie also leads the team with 42 steals and ranks second with 77 assists, while averaging 4.7 rebounds and shooting 48.9% from the field and 77.5% from the free throw line. Leslie earlier this week was named third team all-Big Ten.
Joining Leslie on the all-District team were Kyle Korver, Creighton, Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich, Kansas, Hollis Price, Oklahoma, Jake Sullivan, Iowa State, Ricky Paulding and Arthur Johnson, Missouri, Victor Williams, Oklahoma State and Michigan Watson, Missouri-Kansas City. Korver was named District Player of the Year and Creighton Coach Dana Altman was named District Coach of the Year.
Iowa (15-12, 7-9) opens play in the Big Ten Conference Tournament at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Center in Chicago, meeting Ohio State in the first round.
